Support the sangha

Facing the Mountain is sustained by dana—the freely offered generosity of the people who practice with us and those who value the continuation of Zen practice in northern Nevada.

Much of the sangha’s life is carried by volunteers. Financial support helps provide stable conditions for that work and helps ensure that cost is not a barrier to practice.

Online giving

Practice is offered freely

Your gift supports our weekly practice space, retreats, scholarships, supplies, and the quiet infrastructure needed to care for a small local sangha. Donations of any size are received with gratitude.

We are preparing a secure Zeffy donation form. The button will become active when the account and banking connection are ready.

What donations support

01

A steady place to practice

Rent and shared-space expenses for weekly zazenkai, Beginner’s Night, ceremonies, and other in-person gatherings.

02

Retreats and financial access

Deposits, supplies, and scholarships that help keep retreats and special programs available regardless of someone’s financial circumstances.

03

The materials of practice

Meditation cushions, liturgical supplies, sewing materials, books, altar care, and the ordinary objects needed to make a zendo.

04

A durable small organization

Insurance, banking, communications, technology, nonprofit administration, and other modest costs that allow volunteer effort to remain stable.

No one is refused practice for lack of money.

Retreats and special programs sometimes have real costs, but we work with practitioners privately when assistance is needed. Generosity from the wider community helps make that possible.

Organization status

Facing the Mountain Zen Group is a Nevada nonprofit corporation organized under Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 82.

Our federal tax-exemption approach and the related language for donation receipts are still being evaluated and finalized. Additional information will be published here before online giving is opened to the public.

This page does not provide personal tax advice. Donors with questions about their own circumstances should consult a qualified tax professional.

More than money

Other forms of dana

Financial giving is only one form of generosity. Sangha members also sustain practice by noticing what needs to be done and offering their time, skill, attention, and care.

  • Setting up and taking down the zendo
  • Caring for the altar and practice supplies
  • Cooking and serving during retreats
  • Sewing and helping others learn to sew
  • Cleaning shared spaces and tending equipment
  • Serving on the board or practice committee
  • Offering transportation, technical help, or quiet practical care

Ask before you give

Questions about the organization, payment methods, receipts, scholarships, or a nonfinancial gift are welcome. We would rather answer plainly than leave anyone guessing.

Support follows relationship

The best way to understand what you are supporting is to see the practice itself: the weekly zendo, the yearly rhythm, and the people who carry it together.
